our story

greentomato is the brainchild of two Cambridge University graduates who were keen to operate a business with minimal impact on the environment. greentomatocars, their first product, is an environmentally friendly car service which launched in London in 2006 with 4 cars. It now has a flourishing fleet of 150 cars and a huge number of loyal customers. The company’s client base consists mostly of ongoing contracts with corporate clients concerned about reducing their environmental footprints. This includes BSky B, GlaxoSmithKline and News Limited.

Australian Director, John Calvert-Jones, commenced operation of greentomatocars in Sydney in February 2008 and since then the business has expanded to many hundreds of trips every week. The company serves numerous companies in, and corporate visitors to, Sydney, including News Limited, as well as many individual customers who appreciate the competitively priced superior service.

Our fleet of Toyota Priuses provides a cleaner alternative to conventional vehicles. Their electric hybrid engine uses 40% of the fuel used by comparable car services
and produces 60% less greenhouse gases. Our London business has
already saved an estimated 1,500 tonnes of greenhouse gases
over the past two years.
